More duty-free shops at Zimbabwe airports

Published: 28 April 2019
CIVIL Aviation Authority Zimbabwe (Caaz) has embarked on a major drive to increase duty-free shops at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Victoria Falls airports.

Zimbabwe currently has four duty-free shops, two at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and another two at Victoria Falls Airport, among others.

Caaz said it is inviting interested companies interested to submit bids for the operation of duty-free shops at the airports.

"The premises are situated at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Victoria Fall airports and designated by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) for such purposes in line with the provisions of the Customs and Excise Act (Chapter 23:02) as licensed premises for the operation of duty-free shops," said Caaz in a notice.

Zimbabwean airports unlike many airports throughout the world have not enjoyed live amenities owing to the economic quagmire which has crippled every economic sector in the country.

At the same time Zimbabwe's national airline, Air Zimbabwe, has been hampered by many misfortunes which left the sector bare of much activity.

Government, through its reconstruction drive, has been frantically trying to revolutionise the airports.
